My name is Sara and hopefully you've come across this page because someone who knows me personally has reached out to their network.
I live in Ontario, Canada along with my mother. However my mother is the only one of her 7 siblings who doesn't live in Palestine, 6 of which are in currently in Gaza. We were optimistic about our chances to help the family escape the war zone and support them with the release of Canada's public policy on January 9th. However since then all hope has been lost as the government was unable to complete a single application from the thousands submitted with the policy release.
I know the ask is not a small one. We have 26 family members with ages ranging from a 7 month old baby to a 73 year old who have lived under one roof their whole life. It is impossible to pick and choose who to save, and their ask was help them all or none at all.
Here is the current situation:
- My family has been displaced 3 times since the start of the war and are now split with most members in Rafah and some in Khan Yunis.
- The family home in the North of Gaza has since been raided and shelled. The picture you see here is the last photo we received of the home in January.
- Since getting displaced one of my Aunts, Afaf, has passed away due to lack of medical care.
- I have one uncle in the West Bank, Alaa, who for the last year has been trying to relocate his family from Gaza to the West Bank. His applications were never accepted and he was about to move back to Gaza when the war started. His wife and 4 kids are in Gaza with the rest of the family, but needless to say the stress and guilt is immense.
- Food, shelter and warmth are becoming increasingly difficult to come by.
My aunt who passed away has a son, Jameel, who is staying with my uncle Alaa in the West Bank, he will be flying to Egypt to facilitate getting the required approvals to get the family out from Gaza into Egypt with the help of the funds raised here.
I understand times are tough for many around the world and even for those of us here in Canada. I'm sending this out as a plea for help for those who can, and in no way am I casting any judgment on anyone who has or has not donated. I'm privileged enough to be living here in Canada and I'm lucky to be a part of a large supportive community. I am using my privilege to reach out to the community and do everything I can to help my family.
