Reunite Jesse with her baby

In June 2019, Jesse Wu had her little miracle baby, James, a healthy, happy baby boy. James was conceived via in vitro fertilization (IVF) because Jesse, like many moms faced infertility issues. In order to grow their family as they had always dreamed of doing, Jesse and her husband made the difficult decision to temporarily place James in the care of Jesse’s parents in China when he was 6 months old. Meanwhile, Jesse continued with IVF treatments in the US.

But then came 2020 and the Covid-19 pandemic. Countries shut down their borders and flights were few and far between the U.S. to China. Political strife between the two countries was, and still is, at an all-time high. Jesse’s separation from James, which was meant to be only a couple of months, has turned into years. In order to make her separation from James worthwhile, Jesse has put all her energy, time, and money into growing her family. After suffering through five unsuccessful embryo transfers, a near death experience due to hemorrhaging, and 17 surgical procedures (many of which were not covered by insurance),  she finally received the welcome news that her sixth transfer was a success. But after 12 weeks of pregnancy, her doctor told her that the baby she desperately wanted had stopped growing and that she needed to go through dilation and curettage, a procedure which would remove the baby inside her. 

Jesse is now at a loss. All she would like to do is reunite with James and take the time to heal, physically and emotionally. With the strict travel restrictions to and from China and the financial toll that the rounds of IVF treatments have cost their family, she is unable to make this happen. With Jesse’s permission, we (her friends) have set up this GoFundMe page in hopes that we can help Jesse see James again soon.
