Hello, my name is Alejandra Sanchez, the wife of Gustavo Umanzor, and today I am writing these words with a heavy heart but also with hope.

We came to this country with many dreams and the determination to work hard and build a better future for our family. My husband arrived in 2020, and from his very first day here he has worked tirelessly and honestly to support our home.

On January 27th at 6:30 in the morning, my husband was on his way to work in Tampa when, in Plant City, the vehicle he was traveling in was stopped by a state police officer without a clear reason. The officer asked for documents, and my husband provided his work permit and driver’s license.

Despite this, the officer decided to call immigration agents from ICE.

When the agents arrived, my husband was treated harshly, as if he were a criminal, even though he fully cooperated and followed every instruction they gave him. That moment changed our lives completely.

Since that day, our family has been going through an extremely difficult situation. My husband is the pillar of our family, our main provider, and the one who has always worked hard to support us.

We fought to obtain bail so he could return home, but due to complications in the current legal system, he was not granted bail. Now we are seeking help through a habeas corpus petition, hoping he can regain his freedom.

As a family, we have exhausted much of our financial resources. Legal fees, processes, and attorneys have become an overwhelming burden for us.

That is why today, with humility and hope, I am asking for your help.

My husband is a hardworking, honest, and resilient man, with no criminal record and a strong faith in God. We have always tried to do things the right way and have taken steps to regularize his immigration status as much as possible.

Today I reach out with a humble heart. Any support, no matter how small, would mean the world to our family and help us cover the legal costs needed to bring my husband back home.

My daughter, my husband, and I are deeply grateful for every act of kindness and support. We pray that every person who helps us will be blessed abundantly.

This pain is very difficult for us, but we continue to trust that God never abandons His children.

Hola, mi nombre es Alejandra Sánchez, esposa de Gustavo Umanzor, y hoy escribo estas palabras con el corazón lleno de dolor pero también con esperanza.

Llegamos a este país con muchos sueños y con el deseo de trabajar duro para construir un mejor futuro para nuestra familia. Mi esposo llegó en el año 2020 y desde su primer día aquí no ha hecho más que trabajar con esfuerzo y honestidad para sostener nuestro hogar.

El 27 de enero a las 6:30 de la mañana, mi esposo iba camino a su trabajo en Tampa cuando, en Plant City, el vehículo en el que viajaba fue detenido por un oficial de la policía estatal sin una razón clara. El oficial pidió documentos, y mi esposo entregó su permiso de trabajo y su licencia de conducir.

A pesar de esto, la policía decidió llamar a agentes de inmigración (ICE).

Cuando los agentes llegaron, mi esposo fue tratado con dureza, como si fuera un criminal, a pesar de que en todo momento cooperó y siguió todas las instrucciones que le dieron. Ese día cambió completamente la vida de nuestra familia.

Desde entonces vivimos una situación extremadamente difícil. Mi esposo es el pilar de nuestro hogar, el principal proveedor y quien siempre ha trabajado para sacar adelante a nuestra familia.

Hemos luchado por obtener una fianza para que pueda regresar a casa, pero debido a las complicaciones en las leyes actuales no se le ha concedido. Ahora estamos intentando un proceso legal de habeas corpus, con la esperanza de que pueda recuperar su libertad.

Como familia hemos agotado gran parte de nuestros recursos económicos. Los gastos legales, los procesos y los abogados se han convertido en una carga muy pesada para nosotros.

Por eso hoy, con mucha humildad, estoy pidiendo su ayuda.

Mi esposo es un hombre trabajador, honesto y resiliente, sin antecedentes criminales y con una gran fe en Dios. Siempre hemos tratado de hacer las cosas correctamente y dentro de nuestras posibilidades hemos buscado regularizar su situación migratoria.

Hoy me acerco a ustedes con el corazón en la mano. Cualquier ayuda, por pequeña que sea, significa mucho para nuestra familia y nos ayudará a cubrir los costos legales para traer a mi esposo de regreso a casa.

Mi hija, mi esposo y yo agradecemos profundamente cada muestra de apoyo. Oramos para que cada persona que nos ayude sea bendecida abundantemente.

Este dolor es muy difícil para nosotros, pero seguimos confiando en que Dios nunca abandona a sus hijos.
