Returning 2 Roots (R2R) Charity
Donation protected
Hi, I am Rakam Thamshuhang serving in the Gurkha Staff and Personnel Support (GSPS). Me and my team is raising funds for the GSPS led Returning 2 Roots initiative under Gurkhas Welfare Trust by completing the UK National three peaks challenge carrying a Doko (Wicker Basket).
On 17 Aug 24, three members from GSPS: SSgt Rakam Thamshuhang, Cpl Prabesh Rai and Cpl Paras Gurung will be climbing the three highest peaks in the UK - Ben Nevis, Scafell Pike & Snowdon carrying the Doko with 15Kg of weight in under 24 hours covering a total distance of 38km and elevation gain of over 3000m.
The challenge is inspired by the famous Doko Race that all aspiring potential recruits have to undertake during the Gurkha Selection in Pokhara, Nepal. It is a gruelling 5 km race up steep hills to join the prestigious, Brigade of Gurkhas - a true testament to the sheer robustness and endurance of a Gurkha Soldier.
In April and May 2015 two devastating earthquakes struck Nepal, nearly 9000 people lost their lives and a further 23,000 were injured. Over 600,000 homes were destroyed and over 285,000 were partially damaged, forcing people to live out in the open or in makeshift shelters. An estimated eight million people were affected, almost one-third of the population of Nepal. The earthquakes also damaged nearly 30,000 classrooms in 8,304 schools and nearly 1,000 health centres. The raised funds will be donated to Gurkha Welfare Trust to help build an earthquake resistance homes in Nepal for our vulnerable veterans/widows.
We will be extremely grateful for each and every donation made for this special cause - regardless of how big or small the amount is. Your support will be a huge driving factor & motivation for us to complete this challenge.
