Help me raise funds for NAACP of San Luis Obispo County and Race Matters!
I am backpacking and writing along over one hundred miles of California’s Central Coast through some of the most formative places in my life that instilled so much good in me, while at the same time perpetuated racism, complicity, or indifference in my life that I am now in my thirties taking the time to unpack, unlearn, and share so that others like me can do better in elevating voices of Black, Indigenous, and other people of color in my community. My trek is 6/21-6/28.
The goal: at minimum, get folks in my community to donate at least $10 for a mile of the journey. The funds raised will be used for NAACP’s Legal Assistance Fund and their H.E.L.P. boxes (bags/boxes with food and essentials for our neighbors experiencing homelessness), as well as Race Matters’ Black Social Initiative, NoireSLO. NoireSLO creates private, beautiful social spaces for the Black community, while supporting Black business owners and creators. Funds are used towards venue rental, catering and entertainment.
We all have our own personal journeys to make in building an equitable and compassionate world. It begins first in quiet work of the homes of our hearts, then in the public actions with the neighbors surrounding us who have been historically pushed to the margins. NAACP of San Luis Obispo County and Race Matters SLO have big goals to make San Luis Obispo County a place welcoming for all. Let’s work together to help them, as they’ve so radically helped me.
