Tom LoCascio has retired! After his 40 years as Site Manager and Caretaker for the Mount Pisgah Arboretum, he is switching gears to seek a new path along the trail of life…
The purpose of this GoFundMe campaign, spearheaded by friends and family, is to create a well deserved retirement fund to send Tom on his way, with a show of appreciation after his lifetime career that went above and beyond a job well done!
Tom has been for so many, the very face and voice of the Arboretum – with his helpful, friendly and outgoing attitude, boundless energy, jack of all trades skills and tireless work ethic – whether mentoring youth crews, rallying volunteers, guiding walks, building trails or raising funds and reeling in donations - it’s clear that the Mount Pisgah Arboretum has never known a more dedicated advocate or loyal champion.
Testimonials by the many who have worked alongside him over the years, attest to the positive impact his mentorship has had in their lives. Tom received the Oregon Governor’s Award in recognition for his work with at-risk-youth. From age 23 to 63, he has given his all – with heart, mind, body and soul - toward maintaining, protecting and enhancing this unique and beautiful site.
Whether you enjoy hiking at the Arboretum, birdwatching, attending nature workshops or the Annual Wildflower and Mushroom Festivals - or perhaps have connected with Tom as volunteer, crew member, park visitor or friend - please contribute as you like and add your voice to all who are sad to see him go, but celebrate those wonderful and challenging years he has faced head on with optimistic enthusiasm, innovation, humor, and plenty of hard physical labor!
