Loreto is a magical small town in the Sea of Cortez, on the Baja Peninsula. With its pristine coastlines and vivid sea life, Baja California offers spectacular untamed wilderness. However, most of the kids in Loreto do not even know how to swim and they have not experienced the beauty of the sea or the islands.
Jan Campbell and Joan Gregory sailed in the Sea of Cortez for years, and fell in love with the wonderful people of Loreto--especially all the great kids. Jan and Joan want to give back. We sold our boat and have given the proceeds to Sea Kayak Baja Mexico (a local kayak company) to develop a program for the kids in Loreto, so they can understand their connection to the Sea, learn how to swim, paddle a kayak, and develop career skills. This program has been operating for two years and now it’s time to make it sustainable. You can help.
SPONSOR A CHILD ON THE SEA!
Outdoor education for 10-15 year-olds with a focus on paddling, life skills, and environmental care in Loreto. Two primary programs:
- CURSO DE VERANO. A weeklong summer course for school kids to get to know the sea and learn why it matters. Includes a weekend paddle on the islands. $500 per kid
- VIDAMAR is an ongoing program to develop career skills and environmental awareness. $50 per kid per day.
