My name is Harmon Amakobe, and I am in a race against time to save my sight.
I was born with Usher's Syndrome Type 2A. This means I was born hard-of-hearing, and during my teens, I began losing my sight to a condition called Retinitis Pigmentosa (RP).
It's a progressive disease.
- First, my night vision went. Movies, restaurants, and campfires became a challenge.
- Then, my peripheral vision started to go. Driving, playing soccer, and riding a bike became impossible.
- Now, my light sensitivity is going. Using a computer, navigating during the day, or even seeing facial expressions is incredibly difficult.
I am projected to be completely blind by 45. For my entire life, there has been no cure.
Until now.
The Miracle
After years of tracking clinical trials, a breakthrough has been made. A company called Ocugen developed a gene therapy called OCU400. Through Phase 1 and 2 trials, it has had a 100% success rate in stopping and even reversing vision loss from RP.
This is the cure I've been waiting for.
Once approved, this treatment is expected to cost $2 million per eye. I knew I could never afford that, so I fought to get into the Phase 3 clinical trial.
I was midway through the screening process when the trial filled up. I was devastated.
The Silver Lining: My "Golden Ticket"
But then, I received the email of a lifetime. Because I was so close to qualifying, I have been accepted into the Expanded Access Program (EAP).
This program allows me to get the exact same treatment now, before final approval, at a massively discounted price: $20,000 per eye.
This is a miracle. The $4 million cure is within reach... but I cannot get there alone.

I have a 3-month window to complete both surgeries. I need to raise $50,000 to make this happen.
Here is the breakdown:
- Left Eye Surgery: $20,000
- Right Eye Surgery: $20,000
- Travel & Accommodation: $10,000 (The clinic is far from my home, and I will need to be there for observation and recovery.)
