Vergee’s Palace has stood as a cornerstone of the Crenshaw community for 65 years. Founded by Ms Virgie Huddleston, who purchased the building as a legacy for her family, the salon has been more than just a place for hair care—it has served as an educational arena for young women and men seeking a path off the streets and into the workforce. Over the decades, countless lives have been touched by the opportunities and mentorship found within its walls.

Today, the salon is owned by Bronwyn Hardy, Ms Virgie’s daughter, who has dedicated her life to maintaining the business and its mission. Now in her senior years and facing her own physical challenges, Bronwyn Hardy is unable to continue working. Despite her determination, the financial burden of keeping the building and revamping the salon has become overwhelming. With Ms Virgie now over 100 years old, Bronwyn Hardy’s dream is to restore the shop to its former glory while her mother can still witness the impact of her life’s work.

The funds raised will be combined with contributions from vendors pre-paying to rent salon booths, office and retail spaces, and classrooms. These resources will help cover essential renovations like painting and carpeting, pay monthly expenses as the business transitions to self-sustainability, and launch new community programs. Among these initiatives are support services for individuals facing mental health challenges and a kitchen dedicated to feeding the homeless. Your support will not only help preserve a historic landmark but also ensure that Vergee’s Palace continues to serve as a beacon of hope and opportunity for generations to come.
