Restore the Historic Omemee Train Station

Dear friends, neighbors, history lovers, and supporters of small-town heritage,

For over a century, the Omemee train station stood as the heartbeat of our community. Built around 1908, this beautiful wooden structure welcomed travelers, carried the hopes and dreams of families, and helped make Omemee a bustling shipping point for timber and grain when the railway first arrived in 1857. When passenger service ended in 1962, the station didn't disappear — it was relocated to quietly serve as a school storage shed for decades. Many of its original windows, architectural details, and classic charm remain intact, hidden for years by protective metal siding. But time has taken its toll. The building needs significant restoration to return it to its home community and serve as an accessible space for historical exhibits, community events, and visitors to the Kawarthas . That's why the Omemee & District Lions Club has proudly taken custody of this piece of our history. We're determined to save it from further deterioration and transform it into a vibrant community space — a living museum, tourism information hub, event venue, gallery for local artisans, and a place where current and future generations can learn about Omemee's rich heritage. Our vision includes:
Full structural restoration and roof repairs
Preservation of original features and windows
Relocation to a prominent, public spot (we've proposed Omemee Beach Park — pending City approval!)
Creating an accessible space for historical exhibits, community events, and visitors to the Kawarthas

We've already made great progress: securing ownership, launching fundraising, and building community excitement. But we can't do it alone. Every dollar helps bring this landmark back. Your support will cover essential restoration costs, materials, professional work, and the eventual move to a new home where everyone can enjoy it. Whether you're a lifelong Omemee resident, a descendant of railway workers, a history buff, or someone who simply believes in preserving the soul of small-town Ontario — your donation will make a lasting difference.
