Support repairs to Sturge Town Baptist Church, Jam

On October 28, 2025, Hurricane Melissa, a Category-5 storm, struck Sturge Town and left the Sturge Town Baptist Church in ruins. The church, built in 1840 by newly freed slaves, has stood as a beacon of hope and unity for generations. Its walls have witnessed the growth of a community, serving not only as a place of worship but also as a day school until 1946, and as the heart of a new agrarian settlement. For 186 years, it has been central to the spiritual and educational foundation of Sturge Town, connecting us to our fore-parents and their legacy of resilience.

The hurricane destroyed the roof, shattered windows, and caused significant structural damage, leaving the interior furnishings beyond repair. The loss is felt deeply by everyone who calls Sturge Town home, as the church is more than just a building—it is a living testament to our history and the enduring spirit of our community. Restoring the church is not only about repairing physical damage, but also about preserving a vital piece of our heritage for future generations.

100% of the funds raised will go directly toward replacing the roof, windows, repairing structural damage, and restoring the furniture. Your support will help us rebuild and ensure that the Sturge Town Baptist Church continues to stand as a symbol of hope, faith, and unity. Please help preserve this important part of our history. Any support you can give will be greatly appreciated, no matter how small.
