*** This is the current fundraising page to restore the River Memory Mural on 36th Ave. Donations through this page are tax-deductible and will be distributed directly to the Longfellow Community Council, which will use the funds to repair the mural. ***
As residents of Seward and Longfellow neighborhoods and members of 36th ART, we’re deeply saddened to share that sections of our "River Memory" murals on 36th Avenue have been defaced.
This powerful community-led public art project—created by local artists working with students and maintained by volunteers—has been a vibrant symbol of our neighborhood’s creativity, resilience, and community spirit.
River Memory is a neighborhood improvement project that brought together people of all ages to create something beautiful for everyone to enjoy. It represents collaboration, care, and pride in our shared environment.
While the damage is disappointing, our commitment to uplifting 36th Avenue and to one another remains strong. Acts like this remind us how important it is to keep showing up—to create, to restore, and to celebrate the beauty and belonging we’ve built together.
We’re already organizing plans for repair, renewal, and protection. We invite anyone who wishes to help—through volunteer time, materials, or donations—to join us in restoring this beloved piece of our shared space.
Your donation will help us:
Hire lead artist, Peyton Scott Russell, to repaint damaged portions of the mural
Purchase supplies and materials
Research and obtain other protective or preventative materials, such as security cameras and coatings
Art belongs to everyone. Together, we’ll make sure it continues to shine.
