My name is Laurence and I live in Melbourne, however this message is about my 84 year-old grandfather Ross who is a dedicated, lifelong and committed driver of Holden cars.
Unfortunately, my grandfather's beloved Holden HZ Kingswood wagon was stolen on Friday, 15 September 2023, shattering not only a part of his world but also the heart of an entire family.
This vehicle was more than just a car; it was a symbol of enduring memories, a special optioned order from GMH that he waited six months to obtain in 1979. (5lt V8, manual with GTS dashboard).
It remained entirely original, with only the patina of use over 44 years, a time capsule of automotive history.
Tragically, the car was recovered five days later in Menzies Creek, burnt out. Compounding this tragedy is the fact that the vehicle was significantly underinsured, making its restoration a daunting task.
The articles, videos video and radio segments below details our attempt to have the car recovered after it was stolen. The media attention in this story has been overwhelming.

We have been discussing the possibility of restoring the vehicle, remarkably the drive-line (engine and gearbox) along with the front end of the wagon remain intact after the fire. We have since found a similar HZ wagon, albeit with different options (6cyl and auto) but it has the same colour interior and paint. This could significantly reduce the cost of this project if we embark on it, however it will not be possible without some support. Initial thoughts on the restoration would be to swap the original drivetrain into the donor vehicle and fully restore it to as close to factory condition as possible.
We humbly request your consideration of any support you deem appropriate in our restoration project for my grandfather Ross. All funds received will be dedicated to the restoration project.
This would have the power to uplift a lifelong enthusiast's spirit and create an inspiring narrative of renewal and dedication.
We would be eternally grateful and your support will truly make a difference in my grandfather's life and give him something to look forward to.
Thank you for taking the time to consider this request.
