My name is Krystal Nicholson, and I was born in Montego Bay, Jamaica. It is a huge part of who I am — the island, the people, the culture, and the community shaped me into who I am today.

On October 28, Hurricane Melissa tore through Jamaica, ripping roofs off homes, downing power lines and trees, and leaving 2.8 million people without electricity. At the height of the storm, nearly 77% of homes and businesses were without power. Entire neighborhoods, schools, libraries, community centers, and small businesses were damaged or destroyed.

I have been overwhelmed by the images and stories coming from my hometown and surrounding communities. Many of my loved ones and family friends have lost everything. Recovery will take a long time, but I want to focus on what we can do right now by providing direct assistance to families, children, and the elderly who need help the most. Every dollar will go toward purchasing and shipping supplies to those directly impacted.

Part of the funds will also support The Brenda Strafford Foundation in Montego Bay, where my grandmother resides. The facility provides care and housing for seniors and urgently needs supplies, repairs, and daily essentials.

My family will be packing barrels filled with food, personal care items, clothing, and other essentials from the official needs list to send directly to those we can reach. I will also be personally coordinating with local organizations and community leaders in Jamaica, including the Rockhouse Foundation, to ensure items reach those who need them most.
