Restore Hope for Liz and Her Newborn Son
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Liz, and I’m a single mom to a 3-month-old baby boy. On Monday, I was scammed by someone I thought I could trust. They sent me a check for $2,850, claiming it was to pay for a $350 cleaning service and a $2,500 furniture delivery. They told me I’d just be helping them out by sending the money ahead to their “furniture guy.” I’ve always been someone who wants to help others and do the right thing, so I thought I was doing a simple favor.
The check appeared to clear, so I followed their instructions and sent $2,500 through Apple Cash, believing I had done a good deed. But it was all a lie—the people, the address, the furniture, none of it was real. A week later, the check bounced, and now my bank account is overdrawn by $900. Everything I had—my entire savings—was wiped out in an instant.
I’ve been doing this alone since I was 8 months pregnant, and I just returned to work, trying to provide a safe and stable life for my son. The bank says I probably won’t recover the money and that I’ll need to repay it out of pocket. I know I made a mistake, but I was just trying to help, and now I’m left picking up the pieces while caring for my newborn.
Any donation, big or small, would mean the absolute world to us. If you’re not in a place to give, please consider sharing this page to help us reach someone who might be able to.
