Restore Hope for 58 Children at Kibera Pride Home

Donation protected
At the heart of Kibera—one of Africa’s largest informal settlements—is a place of love, safety, and second chances: Kibera Pride Children’s Home. This home is run by Kibera Pride Initiative, a community-based, child protection organization founded by Irene Kasandi, a social worker who grew up in Kibera and turned her lived experiences into a lifelong mission to serve others.
As we move forward in 2025, we are reaching out with an urgent appeal.
In late 2024, our children’s home was severely affected by an arson attack, which destroyed key areas of the home including dormitories and essential supplies. While we have managed to restore the structure and provide a temporary sense of normalcy, we are still far from full recovery—emotionally and financially.
Currently, we have 58 children in our full-time care—children who have been orphaned, abandoned, or rescued from abuse and neglect. These children rely on Kibera Pride not only for shelter and food, but for education, counseling, mentorship, and a stable home where they are loved and protected.
To continue providing this critical support, we are seeking to raise $107,160 to cover our operational costs for 2025. This will enable us to:
• - Pay school fees and provide transportation logistics
• - Offer psychosocial and trauma support for the children
• - Provide nutritious meals, clean water, clothing, and hygiene supplies
• - Cover rent, utilities, and other recurring operational expenses
• - Replace essential items lost in the fire—bedding, uniforms, books, and more
• - Sustain our ten key programs under Kibera Pride Initiative that serve not only the children’s home but also families in the wider Kibera community
As we work towards our annual goal, we are focusing on a May 2025 fundraising target of $15,000, which will help us meet immediate needs including rent, food, school transport, and counseling services.
Kibera Pride Initiative is more than just a home. We are a beacon of hope in a place where children often face some of life’s harshest realities far too early. Through our programs in education sponsorship, feeding, art and talent development, family empowerment, daycare, spiritual growth, and outreach, we are working every day to break the cycle of poverty and restore dignity to vulnerable lives.
