Hello and thank you for viewing. I am looking to raise money for my mom, Ruth, as her car has required repair for over a year now and she has been confined to her home. She has been the sole parent and caregiver to my little brother, Aiden, for essentially his entire life. He is autistic and requires undivided attention, requiring my mom to be with him always. He is now 14 years old and I feel it is important for him to have access to places other than his home, especially at this crucial time in his development. I also believe my mom deserves this, as it takes a toll on her mentally and emotionally to be cooped up in her home while being the sole caretaker of an energetic and emotional autistic teenager, all while homeschooling him.
Everyone deserves transportation access. Not having a working vehicle has made it difficult for her to pay rent on time (her government housing authority only accepts money orders, which are difficult to attain without a car), acquire groceries and necessities, and give my brother the room and freedom he requires. He missed a sensory-friendly trick-or-treating event because they couldn't get there, he wanted his picture taken with Santa this year, I could go on. They are missing opportunities that could help him socialize and learn and grow, and she is missing out on the world, too. She enjoys nature and taking short trips and she has lost that. Imagine being in your home for a whole entire year, feeling needy asking anyone for help of any kind. Imagine just not being able to go where you need to for a whole year.
Her car repairs are estimated at $2000, so I have set the goal just slightly higher to account for the cost to tow and the website's fees. This is not an insurmountable amount. She has asked for help from her church, we have looked into funds for people without transportation, nothing has been of any help. So now I ask you, reluctantly. We have all been through a lot. We don't want to have to ask for help, but it's at the point where we have no other options. I can't stand to see my mom and brother holed up for another year. So if you have even $5 to spare, or if you get back a nice tax refund, I ask that you think of my family and give what you can to help them resume their lives.
