When a recent storm hit Maui, our beloved Baila Baila dance studio faced unexpected damage. Rain poured in through the ceiling, and the old wooden floor absorbed so much water that it swelled and became unusable. For so many of us, Baila Baila is more than just a place to dance—it's a home for African dance, Tango, Capoeira, salsa, and even the Marshalles church on Sundays. The loss of the floor meant a loss of connection, movement, and community for everyone who relies on this space.
With the help of our dedicated community, we acted quickly to restore what was lost. Thanks to the generous donated labor from members of our community, we installed a brand new waterproof vinyl floor with a 3 mil pad underneath, making the space even more danceable and resilient for the future. This upgrade ensures that dancers, families, and community groups can continue to gather, learn, and celebrate together, no matter what challenges come our way.
Now, we're reaching out for support to help cover the costs of this essential repair. If you can, please consider sharing this fundraiser within your own dance communities. Every bit of support, whether through donations or spreading the word, means the world to us. I am deeply grateful for the generosity and spirit of Maui and beyond—together, we can keep our dance community thriving.
