Last night, the Blue Hill Observatory suffered an act of vandalism that damaged several historic windows in our History Room—the space that houses and protects 141 years of irreplaceable weather and climate records.
The Blue Hill Observatory is home to the longest continuous weather and climate record in North America. For more than 141 years, these records have helped scientists, educators, and meteorologists better understand extreme weather, climate change, and our changing world. Each year, more than 10,000 visitors, including thousands of students, come to the Observatory to experience this remarkable National Historic Landmark.
While our climate archives remain safe, this incident revealed an urgent need to better protect both these priceless scientific records and the Observatory itself. As one of only 11 Centennial Observing Stations in the United States, the Blue Hill Observatory is a nationally significant scientific and educational resource that deserves stronger protection.
Our goal is to raise $15,000 to:
Restore the damaged historic windows.
Install modern security cameras.
Strengthen security to safeguard our historic collections, visitors, and this National Historic Landmark.
Every donation—no matter the size—will help protect an irreplaceable piece of our nation's scientific heritage and ensure this extraordinary place continues to serve researchers, students, and the public for generations to come.
Thank you for standing with us to protect the Blue Hill Observatory and preserve this extraordinary legacy.
