Admiral’s Mountain Great House (AMGH) stands as one of Jamaica’s treasured National Heritage sites, first built in 1774. Over the centuries, it has served as a place of healing and refuge, from housing Admiral Horatio Nelson during his convalescence in 1780 to welcoming guests from around the world. In 2008, Major Neil and Janice Lewis made this historic house their family home, raising ten children and fostering many more in need of a safe environment. Their doors have always been open, not only to children from vulnerable situations but also to students from U.S. and military academies, who found a sense of belonging and purpose during their visits.

Recently, Hurricane Melissa caused significant damage to the house and its surroundings. The pool house, once a place of laughter and community, now needs repairs. The 700-meter driveway is littered with fallen trees and the roofing, windows and shutters on the main house have been broken by the storm. These damages have made it difficult for the Lewis family to continue offering their home as a sanctuary for children and guests.
