Andrew McRea's Eagle Scout Project Benefiting FHA

RESTORATION OF CHURCHILL FULSHEAR, JR. GRAVESITE

Hello, my name is Andrew McRea, and I am a Life Scout at Troop 941 in Fulshear, Texas. As part of becoming the rank of Eagle Scout, I must complete a service project that I've planned myself.  My idea is to do a restoration of the Fulshear Family Cemetery, the gravesite of Churchill Fulshear Jr. as well as several other members of our town’s founding family.  I want to give this family's final resting place the respect it deserves and make it a place that citizens can visit to pay their respects.  The project will be benefiting the Fulshear Historical Association.

I plan to (1) weed and clean the grave site, (2) level out the surrounding ground, (3) prune the old oak tree, (4) clean and restore the headstone for each grave, (5) put down mulch in the grave site, (6) clean, repaint and restore the wrought iron fence surrounding the site, (7) make a gravel walkway around the cemetery, (8) place a bench in the gravel walkway for visitors, and (9) have plaque placed at the cemetery that will mark it as a Historical Texas Cemetery, a designation that it currently has with the Texas Historical Commission.

This project is very important to me and I would really appreciate it if you could donate to this cause.  My total estimate cost to perform the project is $2,500.  All funding for this project needs to be collected by late November in order to begin restoration efforts in December.  All donations are tax deductible as the Fulshear Historic Association is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization.  Any amount of money will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you in advance for your generosity.

Sincerely,
Andrew McRea

Fulshear Historical Association:  The Fulshear Historical Association is dedicated to the collection and promotion of the diverse Texas history of Fulshear through art and education.

UPDATE (12/9/20):  Workday #1 is in the books, and the cemetery is now back to its original elevation.  A lot of work is still ahead, but its good have the project off to a great start.  After some additional investigation, the Fulshear Family Cemetery was found to be listed with the Texas Historical Commission, though it does not hold the Historical Texas Cemetery designation as it initially appeared.  For this reason, I will be having a plaque made to be placed at the gravesite, and this will cost quite a bit more than originally anticipated.  I am raising my fund raising goal to $4,000 for this reason.  I thank all of you for your generosity.
