Replacement Training and Rescue Vessel

Donation protected
Our Project:

Our current training/rescue boat, TOLL Rescue, has served us well for over 25 years, but with increasing maintenance costs, and it’s limited capabilities, it is time for replacement.

What’s the existing boat used for:

TOLL is our training boat for Recreational Boat Licencing course, and is also used for small scale assistance/rescue jobs within the Tamar River.

What’s the new boat to be used for:

The replacement vessel will also be used for Boat Licencing, and also assistance and rescues within the Tamar River.  In addition to this, the replacement vessel will also be available to be towed anywhere in the state for search and rescue within our rivers lakes and dams, as needed.  The vessel will also fill an identified gap in bushfire evacuation from our coastal areas.

Vessel Selection Criteria:

Commercial Survey or equivalent (not recreational vessel)
Low maintenance durable hull
Fast Response
Trailerable
Vessels 5-7M in length
Under 3.5 Ton inc trailer
Preferably Tasmanian made.

Who are we:

Established in 1989 under the banners of Royal Volunteer Coastal Patrol and Australian Volunteer Coast Guard, today Tamar Sea Rescue Service Inc has a formal affiliation with Surf Life Saving Tasmania’s Rescue Services, is an endorsed VMR organisation and acts as a support service to Tasmania Police. Tamar Sea Rescue is a not for profit organisation operated by volunteers from your community. We are also an Australian Charity with DGR status.

Our Aims:

The primary role of the organisation is to ensure the safety of recreational vessels in the North and North East region of Tasmania. We have been involved in a number of search and rescue operations resulting in numerous persons rescued and 42 vessels recovered or towed. Other services include Marine Radio, recreational boat safety education, community education and water safety initiatives aimed at promoting awareness and reducing the effect of disasters at sea and emergencies in the area. In the last 12 months, Tamar Sea Rescue Services has trained 76 members of the public in MAST endorsed Recreational Boat Licence training and assessment.

Tamar Sea Rescue need your help to maintain a high level of service to the community.  Any donations are welcome to help secure the new vessel and assist with ongoing running costs.
