Replacement Trailer Home for Karen
My name is Anthony Miller. My wife, Susan, and I have initiated a Go Fund Me Project here in Billings, Montana, to raise funds to purchase a replacement trailer home for our local friend, Karen Menge, and her daughter.
Karen and her daughter currently live in a 1965 trailer home that has a number of significant problems. Their home does not have fully functioning plumbing or a clothes washer and dryer.
Karen’s husband, Hank, resides in a nursing home here in Billings due to advanced Alzheimer’s disease, and her daughter is fighting disabling conditions as well.
Susan and I have known the Menges through church activities and through mutual friends for at least 16 years.
My wife and I have established an irrevocable trust called The KAM Supplemental Needs Trust to own the replacement trailer home. Neither my wife or I are trustees or have control of the funds in the Trust. The local Trust has two co-trustees, Erika Smith and Lance Benson, who are unrelated to either me or my wife, or to the Menges. They are friends of the Menge's and desire to help facilitate this project financially, through manual labor, and to serve in the roles of trustees of the Trust.
The Trust will own the replacment trailer home in a manner to provide for a lifetime residence for Karen and her daughter that will protect it from disqualification for Medicaid nursing home benefits for Karen’s husband, or future Medicaid or SSI benefits for either Karen or her daughter.
The Trust was drafted by James Thompson, Esq., of Thompson Painter Law P.C. here in Billings.
The video here shows Karen’s current 1965 trailer home, plus pictures from the prospective 1996 replacement trailer home that the Trust will purchase with the funds raised.
We have enlisted the help of local community and church members to help with the move and cleaning when the trailers are swapped out.
Any excess funds raised will be used to purchase new beds and/or replacement furniture or appliances that the trustees of the Trust consider appropriate.
We hope to raise at least $26,000 for this project and to coordinate with local volunteers to stage the move and swap of the trailer homes during the months of May and June.
Although your donations will not be considered tax deductible, we trust that your contributions will be worth it, and we have structured this project in such a way as to provide protection, accountability, and transparency.
As you make donations to this project either online or directly offline to The KAM Supplemental Needs Trust, the accumulated funds will be deposited in a Trust checking account that has been established at Yellowstone Bank, in Billings, Montana.
As my wife and I have shared our intentions for this project with local and online friends, we have felt an overwhelming sense of support and gratitude to participate with others in doing this thing for Karen and her daughter.
We hold the belief that this is the kind of ministering that represents the teachings attributed to Jesus in Matthew 25:34-40. We hope that you experience similar feelings of gratitude and connection as you choose to participate.
