Replacement of Willard’s Woods Fire Pits
Donation protected
Hi, my name is Ethan Showalter. I'm a Life Scout in Scouts BSA Troop 119 in Lexington and am working to become an Eagle Scout. I am asking for donations to help fund my Eagle project: replacing the two fire pits at Willard's Woods.
In the upper field of Willard's Woods, there are two stone fire pits available for public use and often used by local Cub Scouts Packs and Girl Scout Troops to allow children to have camping and campfire experiences close to home. These firepits were the start of many Scouting journeys in Lexington, including my own, but over time, they have fallen into disrepair and no longer provide a safe campfire environment. I have so many good memories of skits and Smore's by these fire pits, and I want to pay forward the gift the Town gave me by ensuring this great local camping location remains available and safe for making campfire memories for years to come. If you agree, I hope you will donate.
I've gotten permission from the Town to replace the current pits with safer, more stable, and location-appropriate versions. With a team of volunteers, I will be clearing away the existing fire pit materials, creating a safe fire zone, building reinforced rings of local field stone, and ensuring fire safety and fire permit information is clearly posted so everyone will know how to safely use these pits. This work will occur in late October through late November.
Thank you for your support!
