To help heal the community, which was divided over this issue, some of us who spearheaded this effort received permission from the Helena City Commission on September 7, 2017 to begin private fundraising efforts to replace the monument with a community-appropriate fountain. All private funds contributed will augment funds the City Commission's Public Art Committee has allocated to the fountain's replacement (currently $12,000 of the estimated $25,000 cost). When you contribute, please share your thoughts about how the City of Helena should rededicate this fountain.
All funds raised via gofundme will be held in a local 501(c)3 non-profit account, with no administrative fee charged, and decisions about how funds are dispersed will be made by our community through a public process administered by the Helena Public Art Committee.
Whether you live in Helena, in Montana or anywhere in the Pacific Northwest, let’s all be part of the process to heal this community. Thank you for your support.
Marshall Mayer, Bonnie Lambert, Duran Caferro, and Tim Tesluk, all initiators of this campaign.
