It was recently reported that a man checked out 100 books from the Cuyahoga County Public Library only to record himself burning them. The books’ topics ranged from African American and Jewish histories to LGBTQ+ topics and histories. It was a clear attack motivated by hatred and anger. But in a time when it’s more important than ever to oppose hatred and bigotry, the best way to do it is with love and support. That’s why I’m inviting you to donate anything you can to Cuyahoga County Public Library. Even 50 cents can make a huge impact.
These funds will go directly to the library to be used for replacing the books that were burned and investing in even more books on these topics so people have the ability to learn the true history and meaning of our great country.
I live in Arizona, thousands of miles from Cuyahoga County, and I have no personal connection to the library other than wanting nothing more than to give a tiny bit of kindness in the face of anger and hatred. Your support would mean more than simply restocking a library. It would show the rest of our country that we won’t be scared into silence and we will support the marginalized communities that need it most. Thank you for your contribution, no matter the size!
