Reparations & Support for Edson

Edson is making the best of a situation that is unimaginable and should be intolerable. He is resilient and connected to community. And his quality of life in prison will be significantly improved if we can help him pay off his restitution fees of $7,000. Until those are paid he is unable to receive money directly to make personal purchases for his hygiene and well being. Please consider contributing reparations and support for Edson.

Edson is a kind hearted, playful, and loving friend. He is a generous son, brother and grandson. I met Edson when he was 17 years old. In many ways he has changed my life, directed me towards more honesty, compassion, and connection. When Edson was 19 he was arrested after an incident in which he feared his life, running away and asking for help, that ultimately led to the harm of another person. He is now serving a 20 year prison sentence at age 21.

I witnessed Edson's trial and treamtment by police, jails and the courts. I witnessed the systemic violence and human rights abuses that took place against him and his family. I am now witnessing the neglect and racism of a prison system that has no concern for the worth of his life, a son, a brother, a grandson, and a loving friend. Every day we are allowing the criminal injustice system in this country to harm people without regard for their life, their saftey, and their story. Alternatives do exist! We can build equity in communities. We can hold LA County accountable to divest from harmful systems rooted in systemic oppression and to invest in Care First Jails Last and Youth Justice Reimagined.
