Repairing Our Home So We Can Move

Since August, my family and I have been dealing with one emergency after another, and we are asking for help to repair our home so we can sell it and move. It started when our AC compressor broke. Not long after that, my husband found a leak in our washer and dryer area. We learned the drain was not draining properly, and because our townhouse duplex was built in 1970 with copper piping, the plumbing can no longer just be patched and needs to be replaced.
That leak caused mold in the wall and around our water heater area. We have already spent $2,500 on repairs, $1,800 on a mold diagnosis from a mold consultant, and $6,000 for restoration. Because some of the restoration has to happen in our water heater closet, we are now without a water heater, and removing and replacing it adds another $1,500 in costs. On top of that, delays tied to drainage leaks from our neighboring unit have made restoration even harder to complete.
At the same time, our dog Melody has been dealing with health issues too. Melody struggles with allergies and developed an ear infection. After being treated with steroids and antibiotics, Melody had an increased appetite, ate something they should not have, and then had days of diarrhea. My husband and I were waking up every hour to take Melody outside and clean up messes, and another vet visit brought Melody’s total care to $1,500.
We still have not reached the point of replacing the drywall and flooring damaged by the mold, and our house is becoming unlivable. I have had to increase my anxiety medication because of the stress, and my husband and I have both struggled to focus on work while trying to manage all of this.
Any support will help us repair the house so we can sell it, move, and start getting out from under this ordeal. If you are able to give or share our fundraiser, it would mean so much to my family and me.
