Hello, my name is Jenny Gorrod and I'm fundraising for repairs to Tayport Auld Kirk Organ.
Tayport’s Auld Kirk is badly in need of repair and refurbishment. People have been generous, but the task of maintaining the much-loved and historic building calls for a sustained income.
The Auld Kirk’s remarkable organ might provide one, but only if it can be brought back to a playable condition. Made in 1899 by the highly regarded Dundee organ builder John Miller, it is imposing in both quality and size – the south wall of the church had to be extended to fit it in.
With its quality, power and range the organ has great potential as a concert instrument, with a place in the active organ music following that runs from Perth and Dundee to north Fife and the East Neuk. But not as it is now; not all of its estimated 820 pipes still play. Those that do – the great majority – sound as good as they ever did; and those that don’t can be brought back to life, at a cost.
About £5,000 would get everything working. A full overhaul would cost much more, and would be necessary in the long run. But simply getting the organ to a playable state would let us put on concerts, and start generating the kind of income needed to maintain both the organ and the church as a whole.
We – the Auld Kirk Charitable Trust – are aiming to raise the necessary £5,000 by GoFundMe. Once that target is reached and the work is in hand we can start arranging a concert programme, and selling tickets.
