The USS Constitution has put in for repairs at Starbase 9 in the Kingsland sector. Damage Control teams have offered the following deck-by-deck assessment of needed repairs & maintenance:
◾ Helm/Navigation - damaged in the struggle to restrain Gary Mitchell
◾ Jefferies Tube - damaged by inverse phasing when recovering the captain
◾ Transporter Room - damaged by cross-circuiting to B in the same mission
◾ Entrance Area - trashed by diplomats en route to Babel
◾ Shuttlecraft - damaged when pounded on by aliens on Makus III
◾ The Bridge - damaged by Romulan plasma weapon
◾ Engineering - damaged from retrofits installed by the Scalosians
◾ Doctor's Office - set needed so the doctor is close when his patient escapes
◾ Auxiliary Control - damaged by Khan's crew who broke all the controls
◾ Briefing Room - damaged in the struggle to restrain Redjac
◾ Make Up/Dressing Rooms - never recovered from "The Deadly Years"
◾ Rest Rooms - a five year mission is a long time to hold it
◾ General Work - like the basement of the old 21st Street Mission
In the real world, NEUTRAL ZONE STUDIOS is a labor of love. The physical work has been all-volunteer from the start; so few doing so much. The overhead expenses and marketing costs have been stressful. Very little comes easy at THE NEUTRAL ZONE.
Except...
The joy, the artistry, the talent, the camaraderie, the communal sense of purpose of keeping something good, something worthwhile afloat. Even if it is week to week. So far, we've been able to keep the lights on thanks to hundreds of donors and supporters. Revenue opportunities are very few, which compels us to once again reach out to those who appreciate all that goes on, and comes out of, Kingsland, GA.
Our sets that are now more than to 10 years ago.
During that time, over 35 STAR TREK fan film productions have been produced and released, most notably Star Trek Continues, but also including Starship Farragut, Dreadnought Dominion, Tales from the Neutral Zone ("The Looking Glass" and "Endosymbiosis"), Ghost Ship, "To Have Boldly Gone", Exeter Trek, and more! In addition, some of the bridge sets have also been taken on the road to fan conventions and events such as MegaCon Orlando, MegaCon Tampa and Florida Supercon to name a only a few.
In addition, we have 6 new production scheduled to film at TNZ in 2019 and 2020: "Let Old Wrinkles Come" by Benny Hall, "Courageous" by Abe Duenas featuring Sarai Duenas, KP Films fan film shoot by Patti Price, "Star Trek: Journey" by Fred Copeland, and two new Tales from the Neutral Zone ("The Gift Horse" and "Return to Glory").
Keep in mind that The Neutral Zone is a working film studio and arguably the only working film studio containing a full-scale suite of Constitution class starship sets including: the bridge, transporter room, engineering, sickbay, briefing room, captain’s quarters, auxiliary control, a 100 foot-long corridor, a green screen stage, and much more!
But through 10+ years of filming 35 productions and taking key pieces on the road, many sets have become worn and parts have become damaged.
As you might imagine, it's a big undertaking to not only absorb the cost of housing these sets by way of rent and utilities, but also to maintain, refurbish, repair and add-on to the studio. What add-ons? Well, sets were built as needed and to date, no one has needed a main view screen on the bridge or a doctor's office, so they don't exist...yet.
But, like anything else, repair and construction takes money. We know that there are a number of organizations looking to raise money for various ventures, but as Vic Mignogna, executive producer of Star Trek Continues, phrased it, “The main priority for me was to see that these beautiful sets remain intact where we built them and know that they would be preserved and well cared for. I’m extremely gratified that Ray Tesi has ensured that these priorities of mine are accomplished...”
We're asking out loyal Trek fans and followers to help us bring these sets back into pristine condition.
We also commit that as we begin refurbishing and throughout the processes, we will post a full accounting report of all activities that are in progress and the dollars that have been allocated from the GoFundMe account.
