100% of your contribution will support this project. Listed as a historic monument, Rochebonne Castle has belonged to the municipality of Theizé-en-Beaujolais since the 1980s. Over the centuries, the building has undergone multiple stages of construction and restoration, each contributing to the uniqueness of its architecture. The most recent campaign, driven by the dedication of the village’s inhabitants, has played a decisive role in its preservation.
Only 30 minutes from Lyon, the castle has become a renowned cultural venue in the Rhône department, hosting numerous artistic events. Among them, Les Rendez-vous de Rochebonne, a classical music festival, and Les Rencontres de Theizé, a theatre festival celebrating heritage, stand out. Throughout the year, a variety of exhibitions and performances shape the vibrant cultural life of the site.
Building on this momentum, the town council and its partners are committed to developing an annual, multidisciplinary programme. Their ultimate goal is to establish the castle as a regional centre for heritage and fine crafts transmission, as well as a catalyst for local cultural initiatives.
An ambitious restoration project was launched in autumn 2024 after Rochebonne was selected by the Mission Patrimoine (Heritage Mission) for its historical significance and the strength of its cultural vision. A fundraising campaign is currently underway on the Fondation du Patrimoine (Heritage Foundation) website, calling on the generosity of art and history enthusiasts to support this endeavour.
