WHO ARE WE?

My name is Jacqueline Edwards and I have been living in Ghana since February 2021 after moving from the UK. I came to Ghana because after first visiting in 2016, it felt like home and my soul was at peace. Since coming, I have done a few small projects helping children in Ghana with clothes, toys and also did a sponsored bike ride to raise money to buy bikes for children in remote villages who have to walk very far to go to school. We are now looking to do something more long-term and sustainable.

WHAT ARE WE DOING?

Myself and my team of friends and family, have a vision to have a positive impact on children in under-resourced community schools by bridging the gap between what the Government provides and the needs of the school. Working in accordance with the government’s Sustainable Development Goals in regards to health, we are aiming to create adequate and hygienic facilities within the learning environment. Every child deserves this.

WHY ARE WE DOING IT?

My sister Janet Edwards aka Lady Leo, had planned to join me on the move to Ghana but unfortunately was suddenly taken from us in September 2020. As this year marks 5 years since her passing, I have been ‘called’ to create a more sustainable project under the banner that my sister had created in the UK called Gold Onyx, as it was her intention to set up Gold Onyx in Ghana when she came. In her honour, I will be calling it the Gold Onyx Ghana Foundation. Gold Onyx’s vision was the empowerment and betterment of children of African and Caribbean descent.

WHAT DO YOU GET OUT OF IT?

The feel good experience of knowing that you are making the learning environment of children in your community a better, safer and more hygienic one. We will also advertise your business on our social media pages.

WHAT IS OUR CURRENT PROJECT?

Our pilot project is the renovation of the washrooms at Peduase Methodist School. We chose this school because it is very close to the school that my children attend and we pass it every day and can see that they educate the more needy children in the community. After speaking to the Headmaster, Mr Joel Okai Darko, the main concern was that the children currently do not have washrooms to use because the building is unsafe and in need of renovation.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We would be very grateful if you would give whatever you can to support this initiative. Any sized donation will be greatly appreciated as we work to get the washrooms ready for the children by the new year in September 2025. The donations can be monetary or in resources.

Our current estimate to get the project completed is GhC60,000. We have currently raised approx. GhC20,000 which we have used to commence work on the renovation.
