Al Khayrat has been serving Southern Maryland and Southern DC for the last six and a half years. Some of the cities we serve are Oxon Hill, Fort Washington, Temple Hills, Forest Heights, South East and South West DC and more. Alhumdullilah, one year ago we opened a second location about 15 minutes away from our main location as we were just overcrowded. At this time we are unable to make the big leap into a huge multimillion dollar property. However, we have plans to move in a few years after we save up some money and build a larger community.
In the meantime we need help at our main center that has a mold and water leak problem in the women’s section. We were forced to close the masjid and move all operations to our second location in Fort Washington, Al Khayrat Khadija.
We figured that while we are repairing the women’s section: repairing the walls, replacing the broken window, adding a vent fan, waterproofing, painting and adding a new carpet, we might as well upgrade a little more of the masjid since we are already closed.
So, in addition to the stated repairs in the women’s section we will do the following and need your help buying some of the parts:
- Our bookstore will more than quadruple in size and become a library.
- New carpets, seating, and lighting in library
- New ceiling in library and food pantry
- Damaged ceiling tiles in musallah to be replaced
- Musallah to be painted and decorated
- New vanity, cabinet, sink, faucets and mirrors in both bathrooms
- Lights replaced in both bathrooms
- Both bathrooms painted
- All toilets upgraded
- Handless dryers and soap dispensers added to both bathrooms
- Security system added and dedicated high speed internet
- Pantry will have additional shelves added as well as a deep freezer
- New coffee area and childproof watercooler
- Shelving and lights to be added to Musallah storage closet.
This is your chance to make a difference in the lives of so many who so many forget about. Our area is a low income and transient community that is very diverse, however, needs the resources that the suburbs have to help continue to make a difference in people’s lives.
Even during this time when our main center is closed and people cannot readily access our food pantry we bring groceries to our second location Al Khayrat Khadija in Fort Washington MD, or we deliver them to people’s houses, or we go out into the neighborhoods where our people live and pass them out. We pass out nonperishbles, dairy, fresh bread, chicken all for FREE to make sure people can eat. Al Khayrat is in a bad neighborhood but is a safe place for people to worship. We have never charged even a dollar for one of our programs and we have never charged for food and don’t intend to as Allah guides our actions. Help us here and may the blessings extend to wherever you are.
