On Sunday, March 12 my aunt’s life as she knew it came to a grinding halt.
Normally, a busy mom of 4 teenagers/young adults at home with her, an X-ray tech at two different jobs and a Cattle Rancher of about 50 head of cattle in the middle of calving season she had no idea that a job she’d done so many times over the past 20+ years would result in her life taking a huge pause.
Here’s her account of the events:
“I saw a video this morning on Facebook of two girls putting an elastic on a baby calf and mama cow watching suspiciously behind them. Thank the Lord it ended uneventfully. But that exact act was what Morgen and I were doing when a normally very calm and quiet docile cow I have raised since a baby lost her mind and brutally attacked Morgen and I. It was terrifying and I thought my baby girl was going to be killed. As I tried to intervene mama cow turned her attention to me and trampled me as well over and over again. Suddenly 12-15 cows had me circled and I truly believed I was going to be killed. I began talking to them and telling them girls it’s me. You are ok. Settle down. They slowly quieted and retreated but I knew I was hurt bad and had no idea how Morgen was. A long story short we were both rushed to Edmonton U of A. I suffered lacerated liver, torn diaphragm, collapsed and bleeding lung from multiple displaced rib fractures My injuries were life threatening but so many prayers and skilled healthcare workers saved my life. Morgen miraculously was only bruised and battered. I’m so grateful and shocked!”
My aunt will have a long road of healing from her injuries and it’s important that she not need to worry about her financial needs during this time. Please give what you can and help us ease her mind so she can focus on healing and not how she’s going to support their lives.
