Remy’s walk for Hopscotch Women’s Centre

Hi, my name’s Remy and I am a member of staff at Hopscotch Women’s Centre who, on the 14th of September, will be walking 10 miles across London, from Highgate to Stratford as part of a big fundraising event!

I have chosen to raise money for Hopscotch Women's Centre, who support marginalised women and girls in London affected by poverty, abuse and low mental health.

Often, women come to Hopscotch's doorstep on a Friday afternoon with their young children, urgently seeking safety. These women flee just before the weekend, as they cannot face a weekend at home with their abuser. However, there is no time to seek help from local authorities before they close for the weekend, and women's refuges are full or they do not take children.

Therefore, Hopscotch Women's Centre takes responsibility to keep them safe until Monday, when the woman can come back to and seek support from their advocates.

With no supplies for herself and her children, Hopscotch pays for 3 nights in a hotel, as well as food and toiletries to last them the weekend. Staff work late into the evening, supporting the family to ensure they feel safe.

For each woman or family, this costs £300.
