Help remove plastic & debris from our waterways
Clear Blue Sea is a 501(C)3 nonprofit organization whose purpose is to clean debris and plastic pollution from our bays, beaches, harbors and other waterways.
To remedy this problem, we have developed a cleaning machine we call FRED (Floating Robot Eliminating Debris).
FRED is a solar-powered, semi-autonomous, marine pollution, cleaning robot. As FRED traverses the trash filled or polluted water, it skims the water scooping up all the debris and plastic garbage. Clear Blue Sea then disposes of the trash properly and delivers recyclables to recycling centers.
So far, our team of engineering volunteers and interns have been able to produce two small-scale FRED functioning prototypes. Clear Blue Sea seeks to launch FRED into full operation in the coming year.
Further development of FRED’s capabilities and specialized software will increase FRED’s capabilities and effectiveness.
Around 275 million tons of plastic waste are produced worldwide annually, and over 12 million tons are dumped into the sea. Scientists and environmental experts estimate that by 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in the world’s oceans. Fish, birds, sea turtles, and marine mammals can become entangled in or ingest plastic debris causing them to suffocate, starve, and drown. This isn't only a threat to marine life; it also affects humans when these same plastics wind up in our food chain.
As stewards of our environment, we must reverse the damage we have created by the overproduction of plastic and other pollutants. Our team is motivated to deploy FREDs to remove the debris and plastic pollution harming marine life and the beauty of our bays, rivers, beaches, and oceans.
Your donations will help us complete the development of FRED and create real change with action. We are hoping to reach our goal of $100,000 with the help of your donations.
We would like to thank you for your time and ask that you donate. Also please pass on our cause by talking about us and following us on social media.
