Remembering Russell Hoyt, Our Crossing Guard

Donation protected
Russell Hoyt was a beloved fixture in our community. For every year that my own two sons were in school he was the crossing guard at the intersection of Lincoln Street and Main Street. Rain, sun, or snow, he was always there with a gentle smile to usher our kids into the start and finish of their day. Whether we anticipated challenges, fun milestones, or just another regular school day, we could always depend on Mr. Hoyt for a warm dose of kindness. We loved admiring his classic car (white with aqua blue interior), usually parked near the intersection as he worked.

We are raising funds in order to install a commemorative bench in his name at Exeter's Park Street Common. My family loves the thought of Russell continuing his diligent watch over our community from a restful spot near his home.

We are doing this with the blessing of Mr. Hoyt's family, and will let them lead the way with commemorative words etc. on the bench.

You may read Mr. Hoyt's obituary here.

The cost of a park bench through Town of Exeter's Memorial Parkbench program is just under $2000. Any additional funds that are raised will be given to his devoted wife of 58 years, Ann Marie Hoyt.
