Liz's Legacy: Support for Taryn and William

It is with profound shock and sadness that I convey that my dear sister Liz has suddenly passed away on August 8th. While in a work meeting, she experienced a rapid series of heart arrhythmias that proved fatal in minutes. She had no underlying heart issues and was in excellent health. The medical staff said this was just one of those unfortunate events that can happen to an incredibly unlucky few. We, the family and close friends, are stunned and devastated. She has left an enormous hole in all our hearts…..

To know Liz was to know an incredibly brilliant, wildly articulate person with compassion that knew no bounds. She was quick to smile and meet a stranger with friendship vs. judgment. If you had a problem, she would go to the ends of the earth to research and find you a solution. A gifted writer, she used her pen to tirelessly advocate for the underdog and fight passionately against injustice. As a managing editor at U.S. News and World Report, she drove the dissemination of cutting-edge information, especially healthcare-related, that helped us all better navigate the world.

She was a dedicated sister, extraordinarily loyal friend, loving spouse to Taryn, and committed and proud mom to her son William. For all of us lucky enough to be in her world, she was there for you in moments of celebration but especially in moments of trial. She was an attentive listener who would patiently help solve problems. If you had a health issue, she was a go-to resource. She would pour energy into researching clinical trials, compiling facts and best practices, and reach out to her vast network to help you achieve a good outcome. She would not rest until she felt you were okay.

Liz began her career at Reader’s Digest in the magazine’s Research Department. With her exceptional energy, curiosity, entrepreneurialism, and editing skills, she moved from the Research to Reading and Editing, and finally the Book Department. She is well remembered by her colleagues who have shared these thoughts: “a special soul;”” Liz was brilliant,” “a great basketball buddy; “a star;”and “such a talented editor.”

From her work colleagues at U.S. News and World Report: "Liz was an accomplished professional, a mentor to early career employees, and a model of energy, passion, and dedication for so many of our colleagues. Liz was a journalist at her core and her professionalism and dedication to U.S. News’ editorial mission was extraordinary.... She was an incredible, trusted colleague and set an example that will continue to be an inspiration to us all."

Liz leaves behind her wonderful wife Taryn and their 13-year-old son William. So, so many of you have asked how to help them and honor Liz and we believe this GoFundMe page is the best way. We hope to raise enough funds to ease the daily financial strain as well as future needs, such as college. Whatever you can contribute is truly appreciated.
