Hello everyone.

First, I would like to take some time to acknowledge the passing of one of our longest-serving volunteers, Mr. Steven Garcia. Steven served the youth of our league selflessly, proudly, and with love. Although his son played, you could find Steven throwing a football with any kid on the sideline, at the scorer's table keeping time and score, always with a green snow cone in hand. He used to lug around his old red cooler stocked to the brim with water and Gatorade for any kid that needed it. He is a volunteer any organization would be proud to have. Steven is a person that will be impossible to replace; however, his actions will have an eternal impact on all who came across his path.

Our upcoming season has been delayed due to his passing for one important reason. I sat and thought about how we would address this and how we could honor Steven’s memory. I wanted to honor him to show our community how a single volunteer can make a huge difference. In order for us to do this, I wanted to make sure we did this right. So our upcoming season will be in honor of Steven, and in doing so, in his honor, all kids will play for free this season. It doesn’t matter if they are from home, Peña Blanca, Cochiti, or any of the surrounding communities; ALL kids will play for free.

We have always had a scholarship every season, and also in his honor, we are now naming our scholarship “The Steven Garcia Memorial Scholarship.” He always used to tell us that he wanted this league to last and was always excited on game days. He would always be one of the first ones to show up and one of the last to leave. So our upcoming season will be known as “The Season for Coach Steven.”

We will be opening up registration soon, and since all kids will be playing for free, we will be needing some help. Our tentative schedule is set for late August 2025. In the past, we have always tried to keep costs low so that every child had the opportunity to play. Even if families couldn’t find the money for registration fees, we never turned any child away. Whether it came out of our personal pockets or us door-dashing to ensure kids could play, we always made it work. This season, to pull off a completely free season for all kids is a great challenge. However, we are determined to get this season done for Coach Steven.

Our goal is $15,000 to ensure a completely free season for the kids. This includes registration fees, new equipment that the league needs, training for our referees, as well as uniforms for our refs. We are always looking for volunteers, so if you’re interested, please feel free to reach out to us. As always, we want to make every season as special as possible. To make sure all the kids are served with respect and dignity. To make sure that everyone feels welcome and has fun. So please help us in making this season as special as possible for Coach Steven.
