Alec Montoya was a devoted pediatric emergency nurse at the University of New Mexico hospital. He was a beloved partner, son, friend, and so much more to people in his life and community. On Thursday October 9th while heading in to do the job he so deeply loved, he tragically lost his life in a horrific accident.

It’s hard to find the right words that come to mind when thinking of Alec, but if I had to pick one it’d be respect — because with that one comes numerous more. Honor, loyalty, strength, dignity and dedication were a few principles he led his life by. He was driven by making his dreams come true and his future was bright. Those around him admired his infectious smile, strong work ethic and enthusiasm for life. They often boast of the silly, compassionate, and kind person he strived to be. The loss of him is profound, but his legacy will live on in the lives of all the people he impacted.
