Remember With Jared
In 2017 at the young age of 50, Jared Waltman received devastating news that he had Early-onset Alzheimer’s disease. This diagnosis not only shattered his life but also the lives of those around him, especially his wife and seven children—two of which were serving missions, and three of which were still in grade or high school. On the drive home from the doctor's office Jared told his wife, Lisa, that his strongest desire was to spend quality time making memories with his family.
Shortly after, Jared lost the ability to drive. As Jared was being driven to his temporary job by one of his sons he was asked, “What is the thing you want to do most before you die?” His answer: “To go to Guatemala one last time with my family.” Jared had served a mission for his church as a nineteen year-old and had always dreamed of going back to visit the country and people that he had grown to love.
Since his diagnosis and rapid decline of health, each member of Jared and Lisa’s children has dedicated their time and resources to caring for Jared and for their family’s needs. Lisa has been attending school to finish her degree as she is the sole provider of their household, and has recently resigned from her job to take care of Jared at home. Each of Jared’s children help with his basic needs while working together to better the circumstances of their family as a whole. With such a narrow timeline due to the speedy decline, no financial resources and very little time could be spared to attempt to travel one last time together during this difficult time.
It has been years and years since the Waltman family has been able to make a trip together. The money from this fundraiser will help Jared and his family fulfill his last wish to visit Guatemala together this fall before it is no longer an option. These funds will help Jared and his family to be able to make one last great memory together.
We want to thank you for supporting the Waltman family through this journey and helping to make his dream come true. Your never ending generosity, support, and love is much appreciated. Thank you for helping us to “Remember with Jared.”
