Who turned out the lights?!

Hey, i’m Alex and I am fundraising on behalf of the StarDisc and the wider Wirksworth community.

You may have noticed that the lights have not been working for some time, but we have a plan and we are on the case.

These are the repairs and upgrades that we need:

New modern solar panels

Upgrade and future-proof the wiring

Introduce automated Scene Changes with Moon Cycle & Games

I’m sure many of you have enjoyed the pleasant hues radiating from the stones as the sun sets, it creates a truly magical environment.

This is a space for everyone to enjoy and feel welcome. When the lights are off at night, that welcome feeling can fade.

Currently we have the disc, but we have lost the vibes.

The Wirksworth StarDisc is more than just a piece of art; it’s a celestial compass that brings people together under the shared wonder of the night sky.

This 21st-century stone circle is a unique, breathtaking space for stargazing, community events, and personal reflection. It serves as a beacon of inspiration, connecting us not only to the universe but to each other.

For those who have stood on the StarDisc, you’ll know its power—the quiet awe it inspires, the joy it brings to gatherings, and the sense of belonging it fosters.

But, this beloved landmark of ours doesn’t take care of itself. To continue shining as a space of discovery and joy, the StarDisc needs support. Your generosity can help preserve its magic for future stargazers, storytellers, and dreamers. Your donation will allow us to replace and upgrade the outdated solar panels and lay all new wiring to the lights. Tech has move on since we first broke ground here, and these new solar panels efficient solar panels will ensure sustainable power generation year-round, enhancing reliability even in low-light conditions.

With your help we will also introduce automated, moon-phase-aligned lighting changes for a fresh visitor experience with each moon cycle, as was the original intention of the project.

Your contribution will also allow time spent in programming games into the lighting patterns, on certain days. Dynamic lighting and interactive games will provide fresh experiences and combined with QR codes, we will direct visitors to a webpage featuring game instructions, the schedule of lighting scenes, and additional information on the installation. This provides a self-guided component to the StarDisc experience, enhancing accessibility and depth.Through these games nights, moon-cycle displays, and the on-site educational resources, the StarDisc will also serve as a community and learning hub.
