Relief Fundraiser for Michaela Sheldrick

Our dear friend, daughter, sister, and teacher, Miss Mikae has been going through a winter of unwell-ness. What began as the common flu back in early February of 2023, has since escalated into a series of increasingly intense stages of illness.

After going in to see her doctor, not two weeks after her flu bug began, she was diagnosed with bronchial RSV and put on steroids. Despite her efforts to drink plenty of warm fluids, eat right, rest well, and minimize work, her symptoms worsened and later developed into pneumonia.

Anyone who knows Mikae knows that she can have a hard time staying away from work, wanting nothing more than to gift her service to the children at Minnesota Waldorf School — regardless of her condition! However, some sickness just won’t allow for work to be done, and so the wonderful women of MWS’s Early Childhood department have been stretching themselves to cover during Mikae’s time away.

She has missed nearly 4 weeks of pay, and recently survived an unexpected trip to the ER (3/19/‘23). Just when things seemed to be “turning a corner,” Mikae’s partner rushed her to St. John’s in the middle of the night due to excessive vomiting and what she described as “a fire beneath her skin.” The medical professionals were able to subdue her pain, flush her system, and perform a cat scan that revealed dangerously high levels of GI inflammation caused by the norovirus.

Needless to say, the expense of getting well has become an added stressor contributing to this prolonged illness. Please consider donating to help with medical bills and other related expenses to get our beloved Miss Mikae back on her feet, and back to doing what she loves — spreading warmth and joy to our young children, her colleagues, family, and friends.
