Relief Fund for Immigrant Workers in Forks, WA

We are setting up this fund to help support our community members that have been left out of receiving other forms of aid during the COVID-19 pandemic. More than 150 families that make their living by harvesting salal (a plant used in floral arrangements) from the forests in and around the area of Forks, WA are out of work for an extended period. With the COVID-19 pandemic, there is no longer a market for salal and local companies that buy the salal have had to shut their doors indefinitely, waiting for the market to recover and orders to come in again. Most likely, work will not start up again until at least the next harvesting season – mid/end of July. This part of our community does not have another work option. They also do not qualify for any of the federal aid programs because of varied immigration status. These funds, combined with mutual aid, will be used to help these families survive this pandemic: paying bills and keeping their families fed. Please consider helping if you can in these tough times.

Estamos estableciendo este fondo para apoyar a los miembros de nuestra comunidad que han quedado fuera de recibir otras formas de ayuda durante la pandemia de COVID-19. Más de 150 familias que se ganan la vida cosechando salal (una hoja verde utilizada en los arreglos florales) en y alrededor del área de Forks están sin trabajo por un período prolongado. Con la pandemia de COVID-19, ya no hay un mercado para salal y las compañías locales que compran el salal han tenido que cerrar sus puertas indefinidamente, esperando que el mercado se recupere y llegan las pedidas otra vez. Lo más probable es que el trabajo no comience de nuevo hasta por lo menos la próxima temporada de cosecha: mediados / finales de julio. Esta parte de nuestra comunidad no tiene otra opción de trabajo. Tampoco califican para ninguno de los programas de ayuda federal debido a su situación de inmigración. Estos fondos, combinados con ayuda mutua, se utilizarán para ayudar a estas familias a sobrevivir a esta pandemia: pagar facturas y mantener a sus familias con comida. Por favor considere ayudar si puede en estos tiempos difíciles.
