My name is Rinju Reji and I am reaching out with a heavy heart and deep hope.

I am currently a student in Canada, and a new mother to a precious 3-month-old baby. What should be a joyful time in my life has become one of heartbreak, uncertainty, and immense struggle.

Last year, my husband—who was our family’s main support—met with a serious accident. His leg bones were severely broken, and he has been unable to walk or work since October. As a result, we’ve been struggling to manage even our most basic needs like rent, food, and baby essentials.

At the same time, my father back home in India is fighting for his life. At just 50 years old, he is suffering from chronic kidney disease (Stage 5) and is on dialysis two-three times a week. Every month, his treatment alone costs over ₹20,000 INR ($350 CAD). Doctors have now told us that a kidney transplant is urgently needed to save his life.

But the cost of a kidney transplant in India is overwhelming—between ₹15 to ₹20 lakhs INR ($25,000–$30,000 CAD), including surgery, donor care, post-transplant medications, and hospital stays.

My father has never seen his grandchild—my baby—because I have not been able to travel home due to financial strain. My heart breaks knowing he is suffering alone while we are struggling to survive far from home.
