Bowness is more than just a neighbourhood—it's a vibrant, close-knit community full of character, charm, and history. People live here because it feels like home. It’s where neighbours know each other, kids ride their bikes down quiet streets, and the spirit of community runs deep.
But right now, that spirit and our community is at risk.
What's Happening?
The City of Calgary has approved applications for three high-density infill developments at 4648, 4652, and 4656 83 Street NW. These projects raise serious concerns for us as residents—not because we oppose growth, but because this type of development does not fit the character, scale, or infrastructure of our neighbourhood.
Why We're Concerned
- Lack of community consultation
- Overloaded infrastructure and traffic
- Loss of the unique Bowness charm
- Setting a precedent for future incompatible developments
Over 600 people have already signed our petition calling for more thoughtful planning that aligns with the needs and scale of our community.
Why We Need Your Help
We’re now taking the next step: hiring a transportation consultant and expert advice to ensure our voices are heard and our concerns are backed by professional support for an Appeal to the Subdivision Appeal Board (SDAB).
To do this, we need to raise $10,000. Many neighbours have already committed $500 per household—but we’re reaching out to the broader Bowness community and beyond to donate what you can to help us reach our goal.
Where Your Donation Goes
Every dollar will go toward:
- Hiring a professional transportation consultant to consider traffic and parking issues
- Securing expert advice and representation
- Supporting outreach to ensure meaningful community engagement
If we raise more than our goal, surplus funds will go toward supporting other Bowness neighbourhoods facing similar development pressures along with a professionally prepared case that will influence future infill development and SDAB Appeals.

We respectfully request that the City of Calgary:
- Pause these development applications
- Conduct a thorough infrastructure and traffic review
- Ensure open, transparent community engagement
- Consider alternative housing options that support growth without sacrificing the heart of Bowness
