Reintegration costs for Stacy Haynes.

Hello,

My name is Alissa Jungjohann, and I’m the daughter of Stacy Haynes. I’ve spent the last five years or so working alongside my Dad on a compassionate release in hopes of bringing him home from federal prison. I’m asking for community help for a more positive and successful transition back into society.

About his case:

Stacy was directly affected by the ‘three strikes law,’ which mandates a life sentence for a third felony conviction. He was sentenced to 105 years on top of 6 additional life sentences for robberies he committed in the early 90s. He has spent over 26 years behind bars for a nonviolent crime.

Due to changes in the legal landscape, Stacy appealed the ‘three strikes law’ and reversed the mandatory life sentences. However, the 105 years was reinstated. In 2017 and again in 2020, we worked vigorously on all the legalities of his case to gain his freedom. We wrote letters, hired lawyers, and with the help of our family and friends, we presented Judge Joe McDade with a plethora of communal support. He granted Stacy a compassionate release from federal prison. On February 25th, 2022, federal marshals obtained my dad from United States Penitentiary Atwater, California and transported him to Scott County Jail.

While in Davenport, Iowa, my sister, Hailey Jungjohann, and I were able to visit him for the first time since 2011. As expected, our hour visit flew by, leaving a bittersweet feeling behind. We are relieved that he’s been relocated closer to us so we can visit; however, the uncertainty of having your loved one incarcerated is a constant reminder that this nightmare isn’t behind us quite yet.

Stacy is currently being held at Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Coralville, IA, on a detainer that mandates a 10-year sentence stemming directly from the 1996 case. We have been waiting for an updated time comp sheet to reduce his sentence and give him the proper credit and time served. Today, August 5, 2022, the judge at Scott County Jail has ruled in our favor, granting him immediate release after more than 26 years in prison!

How you can help:

I am now turning to you - our community for help. Many individuals charged with crimes like my dad’s lack the resources to obtain the help they need. My dad, without a doubt, has been affected by an excessively harsh sentence. Suppose I could ask anyone reading this to take a moment to think about everything they’ve acquired over 26 years. From a pair of socks to maybe your favorite pair of jeans, we are lucky to have a lot of ‘stuff.’ Imagine being released back into society without anything but the bag of belongings you entered prison with from the 90s. I want to help my dad acclimate and set him up for a future of success. Your support will help Stacy obtain transportation, clothing and housing. My goal is to give him a fraction of some of the things we all have had almost three decades to obtain.

Let me know if you have any questions or want specifics about how your support will help!

Thank you for your time,

Alissa Jungjohann!
