Hi friends and family! As some of you might know, I'm in my last year at UCSF for a doctor of physical therapy and have the opportunity to travel to Malawi with my instructor and two other students in partnership with St. Gabriel's Hospital. My instructor has been traveling back and forth for the past decade and has a well-established partnership with this hospital and community in Malawi.

This trip will consist of teaching the community health workers (who are volunteers and members in each village) rehab techniques for people living in the villages to help them function in their daily lives. We will also directly treat some patients that come to the hospital.

Lots of prep has gone on for this trip, including awareness of the dangers of medical voluntourism, learning about Malawi's culture and language, and of course medical prep for the primary diagnoses we will be treating.
