They say it takes a village to raise a child. In our case, it turns out it might, in fact, take a village to make one, too! Through the encouragement and support of our family and friends, we are both stepping out of our comfort zones to share with you our longing to adopt a child. We have opened our hearts and are praying for the opportunity to open our home to a child through the adoption process.
After five years of trying to conceive the “old fashion way”, we were no closer to having a baby than when we started, and we were beginning to get discouraged. At that point, we chose to see a Fertility specialist. Over the next couple of years, we followed a plan with our doctor which included IUI’s, acupuncture, and additional treatments with no success. There are other treatment options we have yet to try, but we began to feel that this roadblock was a sign that God has a different plan for us. It’s really difficult to put such a personal situation out there for everyone to see and for us to be so vulnerable. Going through infertility treatments has been one of the most challenging times of our life thus far and it’s tough to come to terms with your biggest dreams not coming true.
No one really knows whether they will be good parents, but we feel that we have gained clarity and confidence actively participating in the lives of our 21 nieces and nephews. Seeing them born, cheering for them in sports, celebrating their victories in life and encouraging them through their defeats, feeling the pride as their progress from preschool all the way through High School. Not to mention all the fun holidays and birthday celebrations! This is all possible because the two of us have spent over half of our lives together ~ will be celebrating 19 years in total this November (8 of them married). All of these factors have helped fuel our confidence in knowing that we are meant to have an even larger role in the life of a child.
We can feel the presence of that child out there somewhere, longing for us as deeply and sincerely as we are longing for that child. If you can feel the truth of this in your own heart, we hope you will consider contributing to our cause to make this dream come true for the two of us and for that child we know is meant to be ours.
What we believe with this gofundme page is that you may, in fact, become the wings to help us fly into a future that we feel confident will include a child. Very quickly into our adoption research, we noticed how expensive it is to go through the full adoption process, which ranges from $45,000 to $50,000. It breaks our hearts to think that the cost of the adoption process might prevent that child’s dreams from coming true. We can’t bear to leave any stone unturned in our quest to meld that child’s dream with ours and to create the family that God intends for us. Will you help us?
