Bubbie Startup Cost

Call Bubbie was started in March 2023 by Bee, a peer support specialist who had just quit their job working for Multnomah County’s mental health crisis service.

Bee became very angry at the power-dynamics that created cycles of trauma for their neurodivergent community by the clinical, police co-response model. What they saw was isolated, disabled, neurodivergent folks pathologized and treated as community dangers further driving those members of their community into isolation. This came to a peak when they lost an incredible lady they were working with.

A psychiatric survivor themselves, they became determined to make receiving help warmer, softer, and more affirming for people with beautifully different ways of thinking.

The Bubbie-mobile was crafted over 4 months by Bee (including its sign) with tools, material, and support from their community. The build has been an act of commitment and love for the project. You can find more about its construction here.

Call Bubbie is a non-carceral, grassroots project that has the incredible privilege of being fiscally sponsored by Project LETS. We have not yet received funding. With your support, we will be able to continue building and iterating on our peer-based model of community mental health that holds the value of bodymind diversity at its core.
